RECON LLC, doing business as Rowland Engineering Consultants, is a civil and geological engineering and surveying company licensed in the state of Alaska.

When Steve Rowland started his private practice as a civil engineer in 1987, his goals for each project were simple: determine the best course of action, and bring the project to an efficient and responsible completion. As the demand for infrastructure in Alaska has grown, so has the company, and in 2003 the sole proprietorship became RECON LLC. In 2024, Steve’s son Isaac Rowland officially assumed majority ownership. This transition reflects RECON’s commitment to continuity and excellence. The foundation of company values remains steadfast: commitment to quality workmanship; hands-on, in-person investigative techniques supported by the right tools; and business motives with integrity. The collective maxim continues to be the same: find a way, make it happen.

Clients throughout the years have appreciated RECON’s straightforward approach to solving problems. Working intelligently and even unconventionally has allowed RECON to build a strong reputation supported by long-standing client relationships. Mindfulness of the client’s long-term goals and of the health of Alaska’s resources has informed innovative solutions for projects ranging from road route reconnaissance, to planning and constructing public facilities and schools in the Mat-Su area, to mineral exploration access for Alaska’s leading natural resource companies.

RECON is currently retained by corporate clients for remote mine and mineral exploration access road design, route feasibility studies, airfield location, winter road route reconnaissance, project management, cost estimating, logistics, and surveying.

Throughout its history, RECON has worked in over 290 locations across Alaska and Canada.
