RECON LLC is currently hiring for the following positions:

1. Professional Engineer (Fairbanks / Palmer)

RECON, LLC is seeking a professional engineer with a geotechnical or civil background to join our team.  The position may be based at either our Palmer or Fairbanks office depending on employee preference.

RECON is a specialty consulting company that primarily works with natural resource clients involved in remote sites.  Projects involve solving challenging access issues for our infrastructure limited state.  This commonly includes the design of resource roads, camps, airfields, ice roads, drill pads and barge landing facilities.  The majority of projects are located off the road system.  Our headquarters are based in Palmer, AK and the interior is served by our office in Fairbanks, AK.

Job is best suited for those looking to work outside of typical engineering projects.  Each job is unique, with often unusual access problems to solve.  Strong planning and organizational skills are needed to conduct fieldwork in areas that are difficult and expensive to access.  Occasional travel by boat, helicopter, snowmachine and small aircraft will be required.  Fieldwork will involve the ability to travel and work in remote and austere environments and in all weather.  This would include the ability to carry packs up to 40 lbs and travel multiple miles on foot in undeveloped areas.  High mosquito tolerance recommended.

Responsibilities

Assist clients in initial project scoping, transportation route selections, field investigations, design, and costing of new infrastructure projects in all corners of Alaska. Geotechnical or Transportation Engineering experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Alaska PE in Civil Engineering
  • Ability to plan and execute the collection of engineering data in remote areas with minimal support infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with road design and construction principles
  • Experience with terrain analysis as it applies to horizontal infrastructure, including interpretation of remote sensing data.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD C3D and Excel.
  • Experience with data collection using GPS, field map programs / apps, and field notes

Preferred Experience

  • Multiple years of Arctic engineering. Permafrost specific experience is ideal.
  • Experience with Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility studies for mining or oil/gas projects.
  • Geotechnical test pit and bore hole logging
  • Geohazard analysis
  • Preparation of plan and profile drawings for road construction
  • Material Site (gravel pit or quarry) design / construction
  • Construction management and oversite
  • Communications experience with VHF radios, InReach, Sat Phones, GPS and other field devices.

2. Entry Level Engineer (Fairbanks)

RECON, LLC is seeking an entry level engineer (0-5 years experience) with a geotechnical or civil background to join our Fairbanks office.

This commonly includes the design of resource roads, camps, airfields, ice roads, drill pads and barge landing facilities.   The majority of projects are located off the road system.   Our headquarters are based in Palmer, AK and the interior is served by our office in Fairbanks, AK.

Responsibilities

The candidate will provide support to RECON’s engineering and surveying teams. This would include; collection of field data, drafting engineering drawings and technical reports, and various other tasks as needed. A successful candidate will be self-motivated and have strong organizational skills. Jobs will include geotechnical investigations, road design work, rock quarry and material site designs, and construction QA/QC as well as other engineering tasks.

Fieldwork is required and will involve the ability to travel and work in remote and austere environments and in all weather. RECON’s fieldwork typically requires travel by boat, helicopter, snowmachine and small aircraft. Candidate must have the ability to carry up to 40 lbs and travel multiple miles on foot in undeveloped areas.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering.   Civil or Geological Engineer preferred.   
  • A reported pass of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assigned tasks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of working independently and in a team.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Experience

  • Geotechnical test pit and bore hole logging.
  • Field data collection, including the use of handheld GPS and field map programs.
  • Familiarity with road design and construction principles.
  • AutoCAD C3D drafting experience. Including preparation of plan and profile drawings, grading plans, and material volume calculations.
